Our Hilda Mary Jane ballet flats were made for walking

When we came up with the concept for our square toed Hilda Mary Jane ballet flats in 2019 (yes, making sustainable shoes and finding the right manufacturer takes time!) we wanted something that was as soft as our sandals. Most importantly, we wanted the functionality of them to allow you to live your life comfortably.

We chose to not use any thermoplastic components so they would be comfortable straight out of the box. Not only are they more comfortable, they are more sustainable this way and last longer.

The Fit

The problem with mass manufacturing is that we have to use moulds of the median size to fit the majority. This means that we have to choose the lasts (shoe moulds) that are narrow/medium width and an average length. We have tried to accomodate most sizes (sizes 35 - 43) and chosen a supple, soft leather that stretches and moulds to your foot.

We do suggest that if you have a narrow/medium width foot, stick to your normal size. If you have a wider foot, we’d suggest sizing up. We unfortunately at this stage do not cater for those with hallux valgus (bunions) and due to where the neckline of the shoe sits, it may be uncomfortable as it may rub directly on the knuckle of the first toe joint.

Email us for more information about the sizes and to see if the Hilda Mary Jane ballet flats could work for you if you’re not sure.

We’d love to hear from you to understand what your biggest issues with the fit of shoes are. Comment Below.
